The Axe’s transition from a traditional high school newspaper into a newsmagazine meant a new design language had to be devised for the 32-page publication. Inspired by the boldness of Time Magazine and the minimalism of Lufthansa Magazin, the new magazine was designed to bring student storytelling to the forefront. In addition, the publication emphasized student creativity: including talented student artists and photographers to add a new pop of color to each page of The Axe Newsmagazine.

With the magazine concepts established, it was time to overhaul the supporting materials: transfer old print content to a WordPress website, create a new logo, posters, subscription slips, and pass out the new publication!

A year later, to allow students to experiment with print design in InDesign, a new tool had to be made. The Axe Resources allows students to download the necessary fonts and layouts needed for their spread in the magazine.
